Today was a stunning day to go to Konpira-san. Konpira Shrine is on the top of Mount Zouzu, and there are 1,368 steps from the bottom to the top. Today we went with our little girls (ages 4 and 6) and they could do it, so I feel confident that you can do it too, should you brave the long stone staircases. There are lots of places to stop along the way, including places for sake, so do not despair! We took lots of breaks and the kids had a great time.

Konpira-san (Mount Konpira) is a very popular place for local people in Kagawa. It is beautiful and serene, and very few foreign visitors know about it, how to get there, and really how spectacular the experience is. Our job is to let you know a little more about it. Come along with us along the way!

The easiest way to get to Konpira from Takamatsu is to go to the Kotoden Station by the JR Takamatsu station. If you are facing the sea, go right. If you have a compass, go east from the station. You will soon find the local train station there. Get on the yellow train that is headed for Kotohira. The station is called Takamatsu-Chikko Station. The ride is about an hour through the countryside and the scenery for most of the way is really great. Sit back in a classic local train and enjoy the experience. At the time of this writing the train fair is 620 yen, so that is pretty cheap. Climbing the mountain is free. Can you beat that?
