One of the great jewels of Kagawa lays out in the middle of the Seto Inland Sea. Just a quick ferry ride away and you are transported from the city of Takamatsu to the island of Naoshima! The island is a place where the very modern combines with traditional culture on the stunning palette of calm blue waters stretching as far as you can see.
Naoshima is an island that is one of 27 other islands that dot the Seto Inland Sea, and is home to only about 3,000 people. The island is famous for several modern art museums. There is the Chichi Art Museum, which by the way, has paintings by MONET!! (cool!!!)
There is also the Fukutake Art Museum, Benesse House (which is also a hotel), a James Bond Museum (based on the novel, “The Man with the Red Tattoo”), and cafes and all kinds of cool art to see on the beaches and all over. Simply put, it’s wonderful.
But don’t take my word for it. Check out the CNN report from a few years back. I apologize if you have to go through advertisement before the video or scroll through trashy ads there. The video, however, is beautiful.

So, now that you have a glimpse into what is in store for your visit to Naoshima, what are you waiting for? Catch the ferry from the port near Takamatsu Station and you are on your way!
