Oscar Oiwa is an artist of tremendous scale. In regards to the Setouchi Triennale, he is well known for his huge piece called, “Oiwa Island 2”. Using black markers on plastic, Oscar Oiwa draws out a landscape of riveting imagination, sprawling upwards and outwards in all directions. Very much a piece that needs the visitor to “be within”. Take a look at this incredible YouTube video to get a sense of the experience:
He is scheduled to have art exhibits on Shamijima, and if that is the case, his work would be only accessible to be seen there in the spring only. It is not yet clear what he will have to offer, but if it anything like Oiwa Island 2, prepare yourself to be awestruck.
