An artist who will be coming to Ogijima in 2019 is Toshikatsu Endo. Coming from the city of Takayama in Gifu, a place famous for wood carvings, he grew up in a context of sculpting and creating. The primary materials used in his art seem to be burnt wood, and with that are new textures and meaning.
Art projects are on display in Tokyo, and he has had exhibitions in Europe as well.
His website is http://artfrontgallery.com/en/artists/Toshikatsu_Endo.html and more information can be found there, as well as samples of works he had done before.
I am curious to know if his concept of “void” is one from a Buddhist sense, or from that which we can read of in Musashi’s text, “The Five Rings”. If I have a chance to meet him, maybe I can ask.
