I used to have an old wooden desk and when I pulled out one of the drawers it made a sound, likely caused by the vacuum inside the desk. Anyway, it didn’t make a great sound, but that image flashed back to me after I watched Nomad Note Dance on Youtube and Vimeo.

Here is a video of them, during the time of the last Setouchi Triennale. They performed in Uno:

They will be coming to the Setouchi Triennale again, by the way! The dance troupe uses a musical instrument that produces two notes, generated when pulling and pushing, called a “nomad note box”. Choreographed with a group of players, they dance and perform. I was completely mesmerized. Check out this Youtube video! Very cool. Very modern.

They will be playing in not-yet-specified locations, perhaps Uno, so we will do our best to keep you posted, and if anyone catches their performance someplace, please let me know and we can share that information.

Here is another of their videos with the “nomad note box”. This is so cheerful, and so communal. It’s a marvellous thing.

This is such a kick. It looks very low-tech, but it is high on people coming together to make music, and to simply “be in the moment”. Wonderful, and very much within the spirit of the Setouchi Triennale that we have seen over the years.
