These days I am hoping to introduce to readers a few more things that can be experienced and enjoyed here on Shikoku that are just outside of Kagawa. Today I want to introduce to you the Naruto Whirlpools.

The whirlpools can be found in the Naruto Strait between Naruto and Awaji Island. There are two times during the day when it is best to see the whirlpools as they synch up with tidal movements. You can see the whirlpools from the bridge, from the shore, and also from tour boats which will get you as close as possible before being sucked down to the bottom of the sea gets too risky.

A YouTuber that I really admire, Chris Raney, who also made an excellent video about renting bicycles in Takamatsu made this:

Another interesting bit of trivia is that when you order ramen in Japan and you get that white pressed fish paste on top that has a pink swirl inside, that delicacy is called “Narumaki”, it is a kind of “kamaboko”. How cool is that?

Getting to Naruto just start from Takamatsu Station and get on the “Uzushio” Limited Express train and get off at Shozui Station. From there change to the JR Naruto Line and go to Naruto Station. The whole trip, one-way, should take about an hour and a half.

Shikoku has a lot to offer, and so much to see and explore. If you have questions, thoughts, feedback, just let me know! cometokagawa@gmail.com
