This is so cool. The New York Times ranks the top 52 places you should visit in the world for 2019, and the Setouchi region is ranked at number SEVEN. How great is that? I am very excited to see that this beautiful, magnificent area is being recognized more and more. So, if you are able, and if you are free, and if you want to see a part of the country which is really “Deep Japan”, this is where to come. You could have the experience of a lifetime! Don’t argue with the New York Times.

I guess I will have to put it on my bucket list then! 😋
That would be a great idea. And the great thing is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to come this way and experience the region. Temples and shrines are almost all free, ferries cost about $5.00, affordable meals are easily found, and lodging can be discovered without too much stress too. Hope to see you here!!
The plane ticket to go from France to Japan is more an issue!!! 🤪
Absolutely. That is the biggest hurdle for sure… but, there are ways that are sometimes easier to get to Japan than just coming in through Osaka or Tokyo. For example, there are a lot of flights that are very cheap coming in from Seoul, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. So, I have no idea about travel from France but if a good deal can be had to get you to one of those locations, you can stay a day or two there and then catch a very inexpensive flight right to Takamatsu, or Matsuyama. Just a suggestion….
Thank you very much for these tips. I’ll make sure to try this next time I plan to come to Japan. The sooner, the better!
