Some people who come to Japan want to see temples and shrines. Some want to go to Akihabara and Tokyo Disneyland. Some want to do something uniquely Japanese. Some people want to go to the beach and dive in the water.
If you are looking for absolutely gorgeous and pristine beaches, Shikoku has its answer for you in Kochi Prefecture. While I live in Kagawa, and love to tell you all about the amazing and incredible things to fine here, if you are on a journey to explore more of Shikoku island and spend time near the sea, I cannot recommend more strongly a visit down to Kochi.
