Fantastically prolific, and reaching into the earth itself for inspiration, direction, and materials, Asai Yusuke is an artist like no other. His sprawling dramatic murals climb walls, spill out onto floors, and bring the indoors and outdoors together, pulling their creative energy from the ground.
He has travelled the world to share his art, to involve others in his art, and to do community focussed explorations of this aesthetic. I have just discovered him, but I was absolutely taken with his style and expression.
You can see part of his work on the island of Inujima. There, you can find him at the “Inujima Art House Project”. I know I’ll be there this year to check it out. In them meantime look at some of these works, and click on the links below to learn more about the man and his work.
