Mano Kogorou, traveling from Kyushu and on his way to Osaka, was shipwrecked near this area. After being washed ashore he looked up to the mountain in front of him and saw a bright light. Stumbling up the mountain he found a statue of Kannon. He founded this temple on the very same place.
Many temples have rituals and places that focus on fertility, easy childbirth, and the safety of children. At this temple, however, there is a place where women can leave sewing needles as a sign that they no longer wish to become pregnant. These same needles can be taken home by women who are hoping to become pregnant.
