There might be about ten meals in your life that you remember as being particularly incredible. This was one of them for me. Just down the street from our house, and from one of our language schools too!
The food was unbelievable, and the main dish served is one you can only really get here in Kagawa. It is the olive-bred wagyu beef of Japan. The cows are carefully fed and tended to on Shodoshima Island. They are fed olives and olive leaves. The effect on the meat is that it is beautiful, soft, tender, and absolutely delicious. There are supposed to be several health-related reasons why its so great, but I didn’t care. The meal was beyond any expectation and I was completely stuffed full of olive wagyu delight by the end of the evening.
Here are some shots of the glorious meal that we had:
So, when you come to Kagawa, take an evening and order some olive wagyu. It will be one of the most unique and astonishingly delicious things you will eat. I think that this meal changed me, as a person, it became a part of me.
Ah… wagyu nirvana.
