One of the cool things about my job, well writing this blog is not my “job” per se, but it is a labor of love… is that you get to meet some very interesting people. One very interesting person I met recently is Oliver Dunskus.
Oliver is well known as a henro on the Facebook Group Ohenro-san (Ohenro San お遍路さん), and you should join that group if you are interested. Oliver has been around Shikoku more than once, and the last time he came through he did it in reverse (gyaku-uchi) just so that he could meet more fellow ohenro. How cool is that?
I had a chance to have a coffee with Oliver and get to know him a little. He is extremely smart, and has a great sense of humour, as well as a natural warmth and kindness to his character. It was a great visit and I really look forward to seeing him again.
Oliver is also not a typical ohenro. He shares his information and insights widely and generously. He wrote a book on being an ohenro. It is in German, so if you can read it, you should get it. I hope I was successful in convincing Oliver than an English version would also be very helpful. We will see…

Thanks for the great visit, Oliver! I am looking forward to seeing you here in Shikoku again!
