I might have mentioned a couple of times on this site that I really love living in Shikoku. This is a place that is so different than any of the places that I have lived in the past over the last half century. Clean, natural, historically interesting, culturally unique, with good food, kind people, safety, and places to relax, reflect, heal, and explore.
For those of you who are interested in taking some time to rumble around the whole of Shikoku, there is no better way to go than by train. Get on the JR train lines, head off in all directions, through the mountains, past the rice fields, and around orchards of tangerines. Watch the sun rise and set on the water. See the birds that gather in ponds and fields. Open the window and feel the wind on your face.
Get off where you like and potter around. Every town is different. Every place a new experience. Get back on, rumble further down the line until you get to the sea. This is a great way to experience Shikoku, and a marvelous way to see the country that is not broken up by concrete, glass, and steel.
